Why do you avoid using acetone?Updated 2 months ago

Acetone is typically used for the soak-off removal of conventional gel nail polish. This process involves applying a relatively large amount of acetone to the skin for an extended period (10–15 minutes), and it must be repeated every 2–3 weeks.

We avoid acetone because, in our view, it is controversial for several reasons. It is an aggressive solvent that can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness, irritation, and redness. Repeated or prolonged skin contact with acetone can cause dermatitis. Acetone can also be absorbed through the skin, and high exposure levels can be harmful, causing headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Excessive exposure, especially through inhalation or skin absorption, may potentially affect internal organs.

Instead of acetone, we use a combination of natural, biodegradable solvents — ethyl acetate and ethyl lactate — which are derived from renewable resources. These are gentler on the skin, less toxic, and have a better environmental profile than acetone. However, prolonged contact with solvents in general can dry out the skin, so we recommend caring for your nails and cuticles with an oil before applying the Soak-off Remover and after the removal process.
