What is nitrocellulose, and why do you use it in your plant-based nail colors?Updated 2 months ago

A film-forming agent is essential for the function and durability of any nail polish. In our plant-based formulas, we use the natural ingredient nitrocellulose because it offers the best balance between high natural content and long-lasting, vibrant color performance.

Nitrocellulose itself is a safe ingredient. The reason it is sometimes criticized is due to the potential formation of nitrosamines when combined with the raw material Stearalkonium Bentonite during or after nail polish production.

Through careful raw material analysis, optimized production conditions, and the use of Tocopherol (Vitamin E) as an inhibitor, we have implemented strict measures to prevent the formation of nitrosamines during and after production. In addition, independent laboratories regularly test our nitrosamine levels, and all results have consistently been either undetectable or far below the guideline values defined by the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety as technically unavoidable levels.

At gitti, our top priority is to provide our customers with safe, naturally formulated products, and there is absolutely no cause for concern when using our plant-based nail colors.
