Is the nail plate damaged by roughening/buffing? Why is it necessary?Updated 2 months ago
When done correctly, buffing does not harm healthy nails. In fact, it can even stimulate nail growth. The prep side (240) of our PRObuffer was designed to provide efficient yet gentle buffing. If you tend to have very thin or brittle nails, you should only lightly roughen the surface.
Buffing the nail plate is necessary to create a slightly textured surface that helps the gel polish adhere better and prevents premature chipping and peeling. At the same time, it smooths out unevenness, preventing air bubbles that can lead to lifting and flaking.
Buffing therefore affects both durability and the removal process. The more you buff the nail plate, the better the gel polish will adhere — but removal may take longer since the polish bonds more strongly to the nail.
We recommend adjusting the level of buffing according to your nail health and the desired durability.
